We would like to say thank you to all customers who purchased a kit from Elizabeth Bradley on Thursday 15th December to help us support Crisis at Christmas. This great charity supports the homeless throughout the year and makes a special effort at Christmas to offer food, entertainment, healthcare and companionship for up to 3000 people who would otherwise be spending the day alone with nowhere else to go. Thanks to all the customers who bought a kit on the day, we can reserve a table for 20 people to enjoy Christmas Day with Crisis. We would like to say thank you to all customers who bought a Dahlia kit throughout October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. A donation from every kit sold was made to the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign and they have expressed their gratitude to all customers who have made a contribution towards the work they are doing in finding a cure for Breast Cancer.

Design Competition 2011

We would like to thank all the colleges and universities for their submissions this year. We had some great entries and it was interesting to see how each theme had been interpreted in a number of different ways. The winning entry was from Emily Smalley of Nottingham Trent University. Emily used traditional stitching methods combined with acrylic board to create a range of designs which could be adapted for soft furnishings or decorative wall panels. We were also really pleased to receive some full size stitched entries from the students of Newcastle College. Helen, Heather and Danielle used the brief to create some very different designs and then stitch them for us.

Craft & Design Month Introductory Stitching Class – 23^rd May 2011

Craft and Design Month is a national celebration and promotion of crafts across the UK during the whole of May 2011. To celebrate the launch and revival of crafts, we’ll be holding a special introductory stitching class on Monday 23^rd May 2011.

Enjoyable and educational, our in house expert will demonstrate and introduce the art of Victorian cross-stitch to you. You’ll be given starter packs in a choice of botanical designs to work with.

The classes will be held at the 4* Cotswold Lodge Hotel located in a beautiful conservation area in Oxford, just forty minutes from London. The class will run 10am - 1pm and include light refreshments for just £29.99 - a special rate to celebrate Craft & Design Month and a perfect excuse to pick up the stitches!

Period Homes and Ideas  February 2011 features Natural History range.

This year, students from universities and art colleges around the country were invited to create a design for needlepoint inspired by interior trends. Working from a brief and using mood boards as a platform for their inspiration, entrants were asked to create a design for us which would work within the constraints of needlework and yet have a modern and vibrant appeal. The scope for design development was kept broad and each student was encouraged to develop their own individual themes to work from. We were impressed with many of the entries and the effort that each student had made to supply not just a design, but also their choice of colour palette and supporting work in the form of their own mood boards and technical findings. We had many strong submissions and choosing three winners was not an easy task but we are delighted to say we decided upon three very different themes and approaches and are pleased to be able to showcase some of their work.

Congratulations to:

• 1st - Clare Smail studying BA Surface Pattern Design at Swansea Metropolitan
• 2nd - Eppie Evans from the foundation course at the Royal School of Needlework
• 3rd - Phillip Stone on the MA Contemporary Applied Arts from the University of Cumbria.
