Student Design Competition 2010
This year, students from universities and art colleges around the country were invited to create a design for needlepoint inspired by interior trends. Working from a brief and using mood boards as a platform for their inspiration, entrants were asked to create a design for us which would work within the constraints of needlework and yet have a modern and vibrant appeal. The scope for design development was kept broad and each student was encouraged to develop their own individual themes to work from. We were impressed with many of the entries and the effort that each student had made to supply not just a design, but also their choice of colour palette and supporting work in the form of their own mood boards and technical findings. We had many strong submissions and choosing three winners was not an easy task but we are delighted to say we decided upon three very different themes and approaches and are pleased to be able to showcase some of their work.

- 3rd - Phillip Stone on the MA Contemporary Applied Arts from the University of Cumbria.
We have also included work from a number of other entrants with interesting ideas and approaches to the brief, demonstrating the diversity in talent and methods among them. This competition is an annual event open to art students within UK courses. Please contact us for 2011 submission details.
